Case Study: Supply Chain Data Migration
A global manufacturing organization was implementing a new supply chain solution and needed to reduce the risk of data migration problems.

The Partner
This project was a partnership with a top-four global consulting firm. Our Applaud Professional Services Group worked as a sub-contractor to our partner consulting firm throughout the project.

The Client
The end-client was a $6 billion global manufacturing organization.

The Challenge
The client was implementing a new global supply chain solution. The new solution included multiple new systems that needed to be implemented and integrated. The source data was in many poorly-documented mainframe systems in addition to several other disparate legacy systems.

The new systems needed to be in place by January 1, and the project start had been delayed into mid-April. The consulting firm asked us to assist with the data migration.

The Approach
The solution was based on Applaud's data migration and cleansing capabilities.

We began by conducting Applaud training for end-client resources. We then scoped the project and structured a migration team to tackle the mammoth task. Our Professional Services Group took the major migration challenges, and provided on-site coaching to ensure the success of the end-client's work.

Applaud was used to extract, profile and analyze data from the legacy systems. The consulting firm used the facts learned from profiling and analysis to establish the data mapping specifications and gain agreement for the migration objectives with the end-client. Applaud then cleansed the data and developed transformation and load components to populate the new systems.

The Success
The project was a huge success. The overall implementation was successful and on-time. The original budget for the migration project was $600,000. In the end, in spite of significant scope increases and the end-client being unable to provide as much resources as planned, the total cost of the migration was only $300,000. The quote of a senior Partner in the consulting firm: "Phenomenal success!"
